SYNOPSIS: Josphine Ekiru grew up in the Turkana pastoralist community of Northern Kenya. From an early age, Ekiru felt a sense responsibility to her community, to its biodiversity and to future generations. Through her incredible work, she’s now fulfilling her desire to make a difference.

Impact: After the film was released, its main character, Josphine Ekiru, became a 2020 Indigenous Women Fellow at Conservation International and went on to win the United States Peace Institute 2021 Women Building Peace Award. She was also featured in the podcast “Wild and Curiosus” (Episode: 009). The film won the Super Short Film Award at the American Conservation Film Festival, and the prize money helped Josphine's daughter, Lilian Akal, launch her own conservation project to plant 10,000 trees in Kona Village, Ngaremara Ward of Isiolo County.
